Philips EasyKey 7300 lever type smart lock

How do I keep my smart lock in great working condition?

Your smart door lock is built to take lots of wear & tear. Expected to be used frequently and subject to a lot of physical use, it is designed to withstand a lot of handling. However, here are a few tips that will help you enjoy the comfort of your smart door lock for even longer.

1. Professional installation:

Smart locks are built with sophisticated and complex electronic components and require precise installation. While a good lock installer may be able to install the smart lock for you, it is best to seek out professionals. Misaligned locks or doors and frames which do not fit perfectly may result in malfunctions, errors and lower your experience of a smart door lock.

2. Good quality batteries:

Batteries play a key role in a smart doorlock, being the main power supply. Inferior batteries are prone to bulge and leakage, leading to shorter battery life and worse, damage to the door lock. So, for safety and performance the quality of the battery used is particularly important.

It is important to adhere to the specified battery type. Most of the Philips smart door locks employ AA alkaline dry batteries. In these locks, it is recommended not to use rechargeable batteries.

Further, choose batteries from reputed brands. High-quality batteries are more reliable in terms of quality, safety and battery life. Ensure you purchase batteries from reliable sellers to avoid buying duplicate batteries. On high-performance products, such as your smart door lock, a few pennies saved may work unfavorably.

It is recommended to not mix batteries of different brands and specifications. The battery power discharge of various brands will be at diverse levels. Mixed-use may affect the normal operation of the smart door lock.  If you mix these batteries, the remaining power of the smart lock might display incorrectly. For example, the battery may be insufficient, but show up as high, affecting your user experience of the smart door lock.

3. Regular cleaning

In our experience as smart lock distributors, we find that most users prefer Fingerprint and PIN code for unlocking, both high touch access modes. Over a period of time, dirt and grease from the hands may build up on the keypad, leading to low sensitivity in the fingerprint sensor and keypad leading to recognition failure.

In order to ensure the unlocking speed of fingerprint and PIN code, it is recommended to clean the fingerprint sensor and keypad periodically.

To clean, use only a dry soft cloth to gently wipe the surface to prevent water seepage or escutcheon scratching.

4. Gentle usage

Several smart locks at Oji Smart including Philips EasyKey smart locks have an automatic locking function, where the mortise automatically pops out to lock the door once closed. We recommend closing the door gently and ensuring that the door lock can firmly fit the door frame. Banging the door closed may impact the lifespan of the smart door locks. Installing a door closer is very helpful, where the door is gently set back into the closed position.
