It is not necessary but recommended. The second admin password comes in handy, in case the first admin password is forgotten. A second password is also necessary if the first admin password needs to be re-set.

Who can add or delete new users?

Only the 2 admin password holders can add or delete new/old users

Can the admin passwords holder also have a normal user password?

FAQ for Philips Locks

What do I consider before I purchase a Philips Smart Door Lock?

Nearly 99% of doors can install Philips smart locks. The required thickness of the door is between 38mm-120mm and the door gap is greater than 3mm, most of the Philips smart locks could be installed. Even for the glass door, it could be installed when the width of the frame bar is greater than 110mm.

What is the safe handle feature in Philips Smart Door Locks?

The safe handle function is to prevent people with ulterior motives from using special tools which could pass through the peephole and press down the handle from inside to open the door. For Philips push-pull smart lock, its inside escutcheon adopts a handleless design. While the smart lever lock employs a safe handle button. Besides, this function is also beneficial to prevent the child and pet from opening the door casually.

Is there an advantage of using lithium battery over alkaline battery for a smart lock?

Not really. There is nothing either good or bad in the two battery types, but depends on the use case. For example, the Philips visual smart lock, integrates a door viewer, a camera and a doorbell. A smart lock with various functions and high power consumption needs a large-capacity lithium battery to drive, which could effectively increase the battery’s lasting ability. Besides, lithium battery has a long battery lifespan and could be recharged. While, for most of the basic models of smart locks, the alkaline battery is enough for daily usage. The alkaline dried battery is not only environmentally friendly, but is easy to buy and operate. But be careful not to mix old and new batteries to reduce potential safety hazards.

What’s the difference between an automatic mortise and semi-automatic mortise?

In a fully automatic mortise, once the user is verified, the lock bolt automatically retracts and mortise pops out. The door can be opened by slightly pushing and locked automatically once the door is closed.
In a semi-automatic mortise, the, after successful verification, you need to press down the handle to open the door, and lift up the handle to lock.

What is dual verification mode?

Philips EasyKey locks have a general mode and a double verification mode. The general mode means that upon successful verification, the door can be unlocked by any of the access options, while the double verification mode requires a combination of fingerprints, PIN code and key tag to verify and unlock, adding another layer of protection for home security.
